Field Device Integration
Products for Device Integration
Starting with the development of our products and systems, the unique consistency is a core element of our company philosophy. We offer a comprehensive product portfolio ranging from manufacturer independent configuration tools, devices with fieldbus communication to wireless solutions.
Device Integration Technology
We offer you multiple technologies for description and integration of your field devices and other automation components. From basic integration via GSD/GSDML to all common device description technologies such as EDD, FDI or DTM, all options can be downloaded from our website.
The General Station Description (GSD) provides a framework to integrate Profibus devices into higher-level process control systems such as SIMATIC PCS 7. The description file defines basic parameters for device operation, as well as information to set up cyclic data exchange between the control system and field device. Siemens Process Instrumentation constantly pushes the limits of GSD to make basic integration of Profibus devices as convenient as possible.
An EDD or Electronic Device Description is a detailed text-based description of all configurable parameters of a field device. The device can be accessed by integration of the EDD into an appropriate EDD operating tool such as Process Device Manager (PDM). Thus, EDD allows complete parameter assignment without direct contact with the field device. Since the technology basis is independent of the operating system, the EDD offers outstanding flexibility in terms of system compatibility.
The FDI technology (Field Device Integration) was developed to centrally push ahead the standardization of FDT® and EDD. As a technology leader, Siemens AG actively drives the expansion of FDI and offers FDI packages for all new devices as part of device integration. FDI packages may be used in all host systems supporting the technology, e. g. Process Device Manager (PDM), or via interface technology of third-party suppliers.
FDT or Field Device Tool defines the data exchange between an FDT frame application and software components for field devices. Device descriptions are integrated as DTM (Device Type Manger) into the frame application (for example PactWare). As a programmed application, they offer a consistent user interface independent of the used frame application. For complete integration of field devices in FDT frame applications Siemens offers the application SITRANS DTM. Once installed, it allows integration and complete parameter assignment of device-specific DTMs for SITRANS and SIPART field devices in FDT frame applications.
Fieldbus Communication
HART is a widely used communication standard for field devices. The HART-Standard expands the analog 4- bis 20-mA signal into a modulated, industry-standard digital HART signal.
A universal, open fieldbus which permits fast communication with intelligent, distributed I/O devices, and communication and simultaneous powering for transmitters and actuators.
Foundation Fieldbus is an open protocol designed to allow bidirectional communications to field instruments.
We are Siemens trusted and approved distribution partner.
As a Value Added Reseller in Siemens’ Approved Partner network, Parmley Graham is a proven supplier of a wide range of quality products in the UK and globally.
